Little Things

We survived the storm this weekend! We had our second nor'easter here in Boston. This last one was a lot more intense than the first. Water was coming over the sea wall a couple hours before high tide, so I packed the boys up and we headed to a friend's house for the day/night. Thankfully our apartment didn't flood! A tree did fall near it though so that tells you how strong the wind was.

Now on to the real reason for this post!

The boys were outside playing with their trucks one afternoon this week. I was wishing we were doing something more fun especially with how much we've stayed home lately. Then the thought came to me: "They are having a blast doing what they're doing."

As moms we guilt ourselves way too much and I'm totally at fault with doing this too often. We need to remember more that our kids enjoy the simple things just as much (or more) than the big outings we take them on.

This was a great reminder that I needed this week and if it does anything, I hope that it will help you remember to not be so hard on yourself!

Adjusting to City Life {8 months in}

Thanks for all the comments and love from Monday's post. You all are so kind and supportive!

Since moving to Boston eight months ago I've come to appreciate a few things that I'd normally take for granted if I lived anywhere else.

Parking lots, little to no traffic, lines painted on roads...haha all things to do with cars and parking!

Living in a big city definitely has a learning curve and now I plan most of my outings on when the traffic is the lightest unlike how it used to be based on the boys' naps. I also have to take parking into consideration when planning our outings and if it's ever an issue we take the train.

I thought I had this city down and then it snowed a bunch and now I'm finding out how things work with snow lined streets. People save their parking spaces with cones and folding chairs once it snows (You don't want to mess with taking their spot from what I've been told!) and when there's no snow it's first come, first serve.

A couple other musts for city living are 1)Sound machines are our best friends for sleeping kids and 2) Food delivery companies save your life in the cold months when you don't want to leave the house to grocery shop!

Anytime I'm driving or riding the train I have to pinch myself because I still can't believe my home is Boston! Just the other day, my husband and I were talking about the events that led up to us coming here and there was definitely some divine intervention and we know that we are meant to be here!

Boston....We love you!

Before moving to Boston one thing I was pretty worried about was how I was going to survive living in a huge city with two little kids. We've come to realize that there are a ton of kids in Boston!

Here are some things we've already figured out to do with kids in the three months we've been here!

+The libraries have so many events for kids of all ages. Usually when we go (which is during the day) 85% of the kids are with their nanny. There are also parks everywhere here and if we go in the morning most of the kids are with their nanny! This makes it a little difficult making mom friends. but the boys have fun and meet kids from the neighborhood.

+Find out from other moms if there are Facebook groups for your area. We've been added to a couple and there is a wealth of knowledge there for play dates, activities and city events.

+Downtown Boston has many kid friendly places to hang out at in the summer. There's splash pads, green space, playgrounds, Boston Commons, the markets and all of the museums!

I know none of these are new and crazy ideas that no one has thought of but hopefully they will help if you're new to your city or wanting to get out!
