Christmas Raspberry Roll

Today I'm linking up with Andrea and sharing my favorite Christmas recipe!

As I've mentioned before, my husband's family has a tradition of eating these raspberry rolls on Christmas morning. They are so yummy!
Makes 2 Rolls

Roll/Sweet Bread Dough
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp yeast
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup potato flakes
2 eggs
4-5 cups flour

In microwave safe bowl, combine milk, sugar, salt and shortening. Warm in microwave (should be just warm to touch). Add yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes.

Place wet ingredients in mixer or large bowl. Add potato flakes and two cups of flour and mix thoroughly. Add eggs and mix well. Add more flour(1 1/2 - 2 1/2 cups) and knead until dough is soft but not sticky.

Cover and let raise until doubled.

While dough is rising make fruit and cream cheese fillings.

Fruit Filling
3 cups frozen or fresh raspberries
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Combine ingredients in sauce pan. Mix until thickener is well incorporated. Stir constantly. Heat until boiling and thickened.

Cream Cheese Filling
1-8oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp lemon juice

Cream together.

Making the Braid
Roll dough into a rectangle, using a little Pam to prevent sticking.

Place cream cheese filling, then raspberry filling in the center third of the rectangle. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut horizontal lines every 1-2 inches down each side. (See picture below)

Fold top and bottom rows towards filling. (See picture below) Begin braid at top by folding left over right, right over left until the end.

Using both hands, support braid and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
While it bakes make the glaze for the top.

Glaze
1/3 cup butter
4 1/2 - 4 3/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Mix together. Add milk to make thinner. Put into plastic bag, snip corner and drizzle.

Glaze with frosting while still warm.

ENJOY!!
Merry Christmas!

Month of Crock Pot Dinners

I always forget how easy crock pot meals are until I use it and then I wonder why I don't use it more often! Fall is the perfect time to make yummy soups and comfort foods! With being 34+ weeks pregnant, I've decided to make this last month of pregnancy the easiest by making four dinners a week in the crock pot! (I only did four dinners a week because with our small family, we end up having lots of leftovers.)
The worst thing about using the crock pot is washing it. I've recently discovered crock pot liners and they have been amazing! You literally don't have any cleanup after you eat, it's great! I'd definitely recommend getting some of these if you are using your crock pot multiple times a week!

Fashion Friday// Sun hats

This week has flown by. Weeks always fly by, but days sometimes seem to drag. Does anyone else feel this way? I'm always glad it's FRIDAY! Here are my Five Favorites and Fashion Friday for the week!
I honestly don't own a hat but these sun hats caught my attention and would be perfect for the beach, park, or any sunny day! Of course, each is $25 or less. I love good deals!
I love #2,7 and 8!
My husband and I have been watching Hawaii Five-O and love it! It's on Netflix, so you could start watching it too:)

I also love watching Dancing with the Stars! Whitney and Derek are my favorite pro dancers. The stars that I like watching are Robert Herjavec, Nastia Liukin, and Noah Galloway!
If you missed my simple makeup contouring post, you can find it here!

Here's a sneak peak to a project I'm hoping to finish this weekend. I can't wait to show you the finished masterpiece!

I've been missing these people a lot lately. Thank goodness for technology!

On Monday I posted our menu for the week! It can be found here.
Here is the pizza dough recipe I use and I love it! Thanks Kristen P!

I've also included Sunday's Dinner.

Have a great weekend!

Tooth Time//Chewing Gum

It's Tuesday so it must be....
Chewing Gum
Clinical studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes following meals can help prevent tooth decay.
The chewing of sugarless gum increases the flow of saliva, which washes away food and other debris, neutralizes acids produced by bacteria in the mouth and provides disease-fighting substances throughout the mouth. Increased saliva flow also carries with it more calcium and phosphate to help strengthen tooth enamel.
Look for chewing gum with the ADA Seal because you can be sure it's sugarless. All gums with the ADA Seal are sweetened by non-cavity causing sweeteners such as aspartame, xylitol, sorbitol or mannitol. Of course, chewing sugar-containing gum increases saliva flow too, but it also contains sugar which is used by plaque bacteria to produce decay-causing acids. Further research needs to be done to determine the effects of chewing sugar-containing gum on tooth decay.

I am always chewing gum but it's more out of habit than to prevent cavities. It's good to know that it does have a benefit other than freshening your breath:)

Here's our dinner for tonight-

Easter Weekend

Our main Easter related festivity this weekend was our egg hunt with some friends!
Baby B got a little distracted by what the others were doing, but he eventually figured it out!

We also spent a majority of our weekend watching our church's general conference. This conference happens twice a year(April and October) and we get to here from our church's leaders.

Here is one of my favorite quotes from it:
If you are interested learning more, here is our church's website LDS.org or you can email me!

In order to motivate myself to plan meals, I've decided to do "Menu Monday." Every Monday I will be posting our weekly meal plan and sharing the recipe for that meal each day. There will be meals like BLT's where I won't need to post a recipe because everyone knows how to make those:) I hope this helps you to find new meals for your family and feel free to share your versions of meals too!

Tonight's dinner:

Happy Monday!
