Canvas Flower Art

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Here's another fun craft tutorial! 

Supplies needed:

- canvas

- paint 

- paint brush/foam brush

- 12"x 12"scrapbook paper

- scissors 

- glue stick

- Mod Podge

Start by painting your canvas. Mine took 3 coats of paint to completely cover any white spots.

Cut 6 pieces of scrapbook paper* into 2 inch strips (giving you 36 strips of paper), you can change the width of the petals by making the strips wider. 

Then cut the strips into 4 equal parts (I now have 144 rectangles, it's more than you need but it's always okay to have extras). The size can vary, the bigger the rectangle, the longer the petal.

* I used both regular and cardstock scrapbook paper and the cardstock worked better if you want to Mod Podge it. The regular paper bubbled up along the edges but ended up smoothing out when it dried.

Now cut each rectangle into the shape of a petal. Here's how I did the first one. Continue until all of the squares are cut.

Make sure to cut a circle for the center of the flower, about the size of a quarter.

Arrange on canvas.
This was the most time consuming part! It was great to have friends working on the project too, so we could get each other's opinions on the placement.
I had to cut some of the petals smaller but it will just depend on what you want your flower to look like.

Then I used a glue stick to glue the petals onto the canvas.

Then I applied two coats of Mod Podge onto the entire canvas.

I'm so happy with how it turned out!
